A quiet weekend in the County with the best birds at sea, somewhat surprisingly in view of the conditions. A Black Guillemot was seen from the Bridlington Bell saturday, though only by the chosen few! Filey scored well with Cory's Shearwater, Balearic Shearwater,  Long-tailed and Pom' Skua. Flamborough managed all the same bar Cory's. The Osprey continues to perform at Sprotbrough Flash. Time to let the Baillon's news out soon?

5 Roseate Tern (2 juvs) south past Spurn this evening.

Wednesday, 5 September 2012

Still fairly quiet in the County although a  Leach's Petrel past Grimston must have been quite a surprise to the observer. The Sprotbrough Osprey continues to perform and footage showing it clipping overhead power lines is proof that it is living dangerously.

Flamborough hogs the limelight

Best bird in the County today is an Arctic Warbler at Old Fall Flamborough, still present this evening. Flamborough also scored with a Lesser Yellowlegs on the beach at South Landing but that flew off west early morning. Several coastal sites logged Long-tailed Skuas passing again today. A couple of Quail near Scarborough were noteworthy. Inland, the most popular bird is the Osprey which continues to show well at Sprotbrough Flash.
